Baseball


Tee Ball

Tee Ball Baseball is for boys and girls 4-6 years old who want to learn the fundamentals of hitting and fielding. In Tee Ball, players hit a ball off a batting tee. Rules of the game are designed to accommodate the need for teaching. As a Non-Competitive Division, the primary goals of Tee Ball are to instruct children in the fundamentals of baseball, to allow them to experience the value of teamwork and give them the opportunity to play baseball with their friends. Games are typically once per week (one game and one practice per week). Games are played both in Somerville and neighboring towns. At the coaches discretion, teams may progress to light coach pitching throughout the season.

Rookie

An instructional league, Rookie Baseball is for boys and girls 7-8 years old who are moving foward to hitting from a pitched ball as well as still learning the fundamentals of the game. In the Rookie Division, the game is a mix of coach and kid pitch (machine pitch may be used). Rules of the game are designed to accommodate the need for teaching. A soft core baseball is used. The primary goals of Rookie Baseball are to instruct children in the fundamentals of baseball, to allow them to experience the value of teamwork and give them the opportunity to play baseball with their friends. Coaches are allowed on the field during play to assist players in position alignment and decision making. A fun, post-season playoff, in which all teams participate, is held for some added excitement. Rookie Baseball is played on 46/60 field. Games are played both in Somerville and neighboring towns.

Minors

A semi-competitive league, Minors Baseball is for boys and girls 9-10 years old who are hitting from live pitching as well continuing to build on the fundamentals of hitting and fielding.  The primary goals of Minors are to instruct children in the fundamentals of baseball, to allow them to experience the value of teamwork and give them the opportunity to play baseball with their friends. A fun, post-season playoff, in which all teams participate, is held for some added excitement and to name a league champion. Minors Baseball play on a 46/60 size field. Games are played both in Somerville and neighboring towns.

Majors

A competitive league, Majors Baseball is for boys and girls 11-12 years old who are refining all the skills they have been building up in the Minor divisions in this next stage of competitive baseball. The primary goals of Majors Baseball are to create a fair and balanced competition throughout the division, provide a suitable vehicle for team and individual skills development and stage the players for much higher levels of play. A fun, post-season playoff, in which all teams participate, is held for some added excitement and to name a league champion. Majors Baseball play on a 50/70 size field. Games are played both in Somerville and neighboring towns.

Senior League

Senior League is a competitive league in which games are played on a full-size, 60/90 field. Generally, teams participate in the Bridgewater Baseball League. Senior League is open to players aged 13 to 15 and rules follow Babe Ruth guidelines.


Travel Baseball

Our SBI Scoropns travel baseball program consists of teams at the 12U, 11U, 10U, 9U, and 8U levels. Travel baseball is a competitive program in which players are selected to teams based on tryout performance. This program is for the serious player that is interested in learning higher skills and making a full commitment to baseball. Travel teams participate in winter training, spring/summer leagues and tournaments as well as fall ball.
